Joyce Horton's book, How to Teach the Catechism to Children, as well as each department of GCP curriculum provides great "big ideas" for memory work of any kind. If one of your goals this year is to have your class learn catechism and Scripture memory work, these ideas will be a great help.
Write the memory work on the board and lead the children in reading it aloud over and over. Each time it is read, erase a word at random until the whole verse has been erased but is still being repeated.
Pair off the children and have one teach the other the verse or catechism until that one can say it without errors. They love being the teacher!
Let the children teach you the verse. Go over it again and again as the children prompt you, until you've learned it well.
Go around the room, letting each child supply the next word until the whole answer has been recited. Allow them to help each other.
